Aphrodite

Venere la sensuale Dea dell’amore; Afrodite per i greci, nata dalla spuma del mar Egeo ( Aphròs = schiuma ) è qui rappresentata in un modo volutamente più etereo appunto per comunicare la sensazione di una forma che si delinei da qualcosa di tumultuoso, come l’acqua del mare o la pittura fatta gocciolare in modo gestuale su una superficie.

L’immagine che prende forma è quella della famosa statua della Venere di Milo risalente al 130 a.C. E attribuita a Alessandro di Antiochia .

This work depicts Venus, (also known by the Greek name, Aphrodite), the sensual Goddess of love: born from the foam (Aphròs) of the Aegean Sea. She is represented here in a deliberately ethereal way suggestive of a form taking shape from a tumultuous force, like sea water or emerging from paint dripping on a surface.

The referencing image is that of the famous statue of Venus of Milo dating back to 130 BC, attributed to Alexander of Antioch.
